Like most days, she's perfectly content to sit quietly with Satoko, reading or studying or working on art. Sometimes leaning on her or holding her hand, sometimes exchanging remarks. She loves seeing how Satoko has explored her artistic side too— that's a frequent topic of conversation. ]
Oh? Of course I would.
[ An odd question indeed. They watch movies all the time. What would be strange about that? She thinks about the question a little more. Could it be that in this asking, the question is an odd one? What would that mean? Unless... oh. ]
Ah, do you mean...

Yes, that's right. A date.
[ it's not said with any expectation. and... it's not said with any real trepidation, either. there's no nerves, no panic, no concern that this will fundamentally change things between them. it's simply a girl asking another girl out to test the waters, and it's simply a witch asking a kindred spirit for company. if it leads to something new? she'll follow that story as long as she's able. but it isn't as if she'll be heartbroken if the story ends otherwise.
she does fancy both black and sweet tea, after all. ]
You're not under any obligation to say yes, just so you're aware. [ polite, with a hint of a teasing laugh in her voice. ] I simply realized there was no reason not to ask. So... I did.

It still blindsides her though. Maybe it shouldn't come as such a surprise. After all, in a relatively short amount of time, they've developed a friendship so deep and passionate as to defy categorization. They are already as tightly bound as any lovers— and as witches, they shall have thousands of years and countless worlds to meet each other in, just as the Endless Sorcerer shall forever come for her on his white horse.
And yet everything feels light and weightless. All that she knows for certain is— ]
Yes. I will. [ That comes immediately, along with a serene smile. ] But I can't say where my heart will lead. This is all quite surprising, I have to admit.
[ But not an unpleasant one. That she does know. ]

Well, for heavens' sake, don't tell me that! You should know I despise when others spoil an ending for me.
[ and she could leave it at that. but that last bit, about it being "surprising..." she glances back at the other woman, her face still a bright red. ]
...is it? [ it's asked honestly. bluntly, even. ] Rika's gone her own way. The Rika in this place... She's not the one I promised I'd find. She's not the one that wants to be found, yet.
[ why else would she keep making that distance? why else would she keep running? she'll give rika that space she needs - she promised that much. but she won't stand by and wait in silence. ]
Why wouldn't I ask you?

She laughs, her mischievous edge a little softer than usual. ]
I don't care for spoilers either, but this isn't only my story to write. I don't know how it ends. I like it better that way.
[ But there's a bashfulness to her smile as well. And she can tell how much Satoko is still hurting for Rika, can see the geography of pain behind those words. Beatrice is aware that there can be infinite possibilities of a person, and she cannot truly even say that Jessica she loves here is "hers." But Satoko isn't talking about that, not entirely.
Sayo starts to feel an incredible, lovely warmth spreading through her chest, but Beatrice urges patience. She doesn't want to clumsily hurt her best friend in this world. ]
Hm. I suppose I cannot think of any reasons why not. How... long have you wanted to ask me?
